Take a Moment to Salute the Professional Driver

Alex Stark | September 13, 2013

Next week is the annual National Driver Appreciation Week championed by the ATA (American Trucking Association).  Did you have that on your calendar?  More directly, did any company out there who either employs truck drivers or uses a transportation company to move your product, know that?

If not, then welcome to the party.  Take a moment to salute the truck drivers.

Being a dedicated, safe, professional driver is something that doesn't seem to get enough airplay.  Maybe because trucks on the highway are so ubiquitous, we just don't think about the skill it takes to handle these vehicles safely.  We wanted to high-light a 'day in the life' of one of our drivers, Randy Korb.  We produced a short, video documentary of that experience to show the non-driving associates (office people, forklift drivers) in our organization the level of care and dedication truck drivers bring to the job every day.

According to the ATA, there are over 3 million professional drivers on the roads today.  Last year alone, they recorded a whisper shy of 400 billion miles delivering 68.5% of the U.S. freight tonnage (over 9 billion tons of freight).

Next time you go to pick up your groceries or a new pair of sneakers, press pause and think of the driver that delivered the goods.
