KANE Expands Through First Acquisition in Its 84-Year History

Alex Stark | October 28, 2014

KANE recently acquired the Southeast and Northeast distribution hubs of third-party logistics provider Nexus Distribution, headquartered in Bloomingdale, IL.

In an industry that has seen numerous acquisitions over the past two decades, KANE to date has chosen to grow organically.  However, the Nexus acquisition is very reflective of KANE's strategic focus to continually expand distribution coverage and services to its customers.  The new distribution sites in Atlanta, GA and Allentown, PA will enhance KANE’s ability to reach customers in the key Southeast and Northeast markets.

One of the benefits of growing organically is the ability to maintain a consistent culture.  Logistics outsourcing success, after all, comes down to committed people, and KANE’s ability to instill the KANE CODE among all associations has been a big part of its success.

But strong cultural similarities between KANE and Nexus will allow KANE to sustain this advantage.

Says KANE’ President and CEO, Pete Westermann, "In Nexus Distribution, we found an organization with a culture very similar to our own. Their dedication to teamwork, technology, and customer-centric focus is a perfect complement to our existing national network. Our cultural alignment will ensure a smooth transition for both our customers and our associates."

With the expanded distribution capability in Allentown and Atlanta, KANE increases its total managed square footage by more than 10 percent to 7.5 million square feet of space, with locations in every region of the U.S.
